KTU dormitories

A foreign student may choose where he/she wants to live during the study period. KTU provides a room in a dormitory or a student may choose renting a flat (note: the University is not responsible for finding a flat).

Dormitories

Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral students as well as University guests and staff may be accommodated in the dormitories. A student who wishes to be accommodated in the dormitory has to indicate it in the application form.

KTU owns 11 dormitories. Usually international students are accommodated in the dormitories No. 2 and No. 5.

Dormitories administrators' working hours: Monday-Thursday from 8:00 till 17:00, Friday from 8:00 till 15:45. It is recommended to arrive in the dormitory during administrator working hours.

Dormitories contain single or double rooms. They are furnished with basic furniture and the linen service is provided. Every two rooms form a flat, which have a shared small corridor, shower and toilet. Several flats on the same floor have a shared kitchen area. Kitchen utensils are not provided; students have to bring them from home or to buy in Kaunas. The internet connection is provided in every room. Laundry facilities are available in the basement. The dormitory has a central heating; separate person can not control it. The heating season starts usually in the middle of October each year and ends at the beginning of April.

The monthly rent prices at the student dormitories are fixed (1 EUR = 3.4528 Lt):

  • 400 Lt (~ 115 EUR) – single room;
  • 300 Lt (~ 90 EUR) – double room / price for a person.

The refundable deposit of 400 Lt or 300 Lt must be paid within few days of arrival. If you stay in the dormitory less than 2 month, the deposit is not returned. The monthly rent must be paid by the 25th of each month. As a general rule, good manners and cleanliness are expected in the dormitory.

To get connection to the internet in the dormitory you will have to present a request to the network administrator. The internet fee is included into the rent of the dormitory room. It takes several days to get internet connection, it won’t be connected the same day after arrival.

 Dormitory rules
  • Student living in the dormitory has to show his/her license for the door keeper when entering the dormitory.
  • Guests in the dormitories are allowed from 6:00 till 22:30 hour from Sunday to Thursday and till 24:00 on Friday and Saturday. All guests have to leave their identity document at the door keeper when entering the dormitory.
  • Quiet hours are from 22:30 (24:00 on Friday and Saturday) to 6:00. At that time it is not allowed to disturb the other inhabitants, to play music loud etc.
  • It’s not allowed to use and distribute alcoholic beverages and psycho-tropical materials in the dormitories. Smoking in the dormitories is forbidden as well.
  • Students are responsible for keeping their rooms, kitchens, bathrooms etc. clean. Residents have to take care of the equipment in the dormitory, it is not allowed to hang or stick posters/photos on doors, walls or windows.
  • It’s not allowed to keep pets in the dormitories.
  • It’s not allowed to move into another room without the permission of the administrator of the dormitory.
  • The monthly dormitory fee must be paid until the 25th of each month. The delays might be the subject of getting a fine.
  • For breaking the dormitory rules for the first time the student gets a warning (valid for one year). If the student ignores the dormitory rules after the warning, he/she will be asked to move out for one year or even permanently.

Note!
  • Inform the International Office about the date of your arrival that we could prepare the room for you. Even if you arrive at late hour, ring the door of your dormitory and you will be let in. Your name, the key and other related information will be left at the dormitory’s door keeper.
  • Within the next days after your arrival you will get an invoice to pay a deposit for living in the dormitory (300-400 Litas; the fees may change – all recent information may be found on KTU webpage).
  • You will get a personal dormitory pass you need to show every time you enter the dormitory.
  • Request to have internet connection in your room may be met only after you pay the deposit fee.
  • Read the rules of living in KTU dormitory carefully to know your rights and responsibilities, etc.
  • Inform the dormitory about your leaving date (after studies, finding private rent, etc.) 1 month in advance.

Private rent

If you prefer to have more space, or to live in a certain area of Kaunas or have other reasons, you may choose renting a flat. KTU International Office does not intermediate in finding the flat and dealing with its owner.

The rental prices vary depending on the number of rooms, location, living conditions, period of rent, etc. Average rent prices are from 500 to 1000 Lt per month for a flat (1–3 rooms).

Note!

The rent is usually paid 3–6 months in advance, so have some money prepared for it before arriving. Make sure, that the owner of the flat agrees to declare your living place in the municipality institutions otherwise you may have problems applying or receiving temporary residence permit (TRP).
