Master study programme

Precision machines and instruments with the supervision of a specialist
Nowadays the measurements and measuring devices can be very complex. The measurement result itself can be not a simple scalar value with its uncertainty range but a large array of multidimensional data. The MSc programme aims to provide the students a solid foundation in various types of measurement equipment, techniques and processes. The graduates can contribute to any area of industry where optical, electrical, chemical, dimensional, biomedical, and mechanical measurements are performed.
Specialisations offered: Applied Metrology, Measurement Engineering, and Ultrasonic Materials Characterisation.

Programme Prerequisites

A minimum of a three year University bachelor’s degree in Industrial or any other Engineering, Physical Sciences or equivalent is required.

Admissions are made on the basis of qualification, references and English language skills. Read more about admission procedure.

Study Programme

The MSc programme is a 2-year programme (4 semesters) equivalent to 120 ECTS credits. The programme is taught in English and incorporates an international dimension in all subjects.

Academic Focus

The Master’s Programme is aimed to provide students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to make modern measurements, develop new measurement techniques or devices, process sometimes very complex measurement results.

Programme Contents

Starting from ancient times, trade, industry, engineering and many other fields of human activity is hardly imaginable without more or less precise measurements. Nowadays, the measurements and measuring devices can be very complex with many transitional transformations till the final measurement result is acquired. The measurement result itself can be not a simple scalar value with its uncertainty range but a large array of the multidimensional data (2D, 3D or even 4D).
Students gain specific knowledge starting from the basics of Metrology and finishing making advanced measurements, designing unique measuring equipment, controlling measuring systems, processing and visualising sometimes very complex measurement data. The student can choose from three different specialisations (Applied Metrology, Measurement Engineering, Ultrasonic Material Characterisation) within the program which allows to achieve even more comprehensive knowledge in the selected field of measurements.

Detailed description of programme contents.

Career Opportunities

The graduates can perform analytical, research, and supervisory work in companies where various measurements are used in research and design processes, quality control or other fields or continue their studies for PhD degree.

Degree awarded: Master of Measurement Engineering.
